What the Discount Calculator does
This Discount Calculator handles two everyday shopping questions in one place. The first panel takes an original price and a discount percentage and tells you the sale price along with how much you save. The second panel works in reverse: enter the original price and the final price, and it works out what percentage discount was actually applied.
It is built for quick checks while you shop, whether you are comparing offers in a store, verifying that an advertised sale is as good as it claims, or budgeting before a big purchase. Anyone who wants to avoid being misled by a sticker price will find it useful.
How to use it
To apply a discount, type the original price and the discount percentage in the left panel. The discounted price, the amount you save, and the savings percentage appear instantly below the inputs.
To find an unknown discount, use the right panel: enter the original price and the final or sale price. The calculator shows the discount percentage that was applied and the total amount saved. All four fields accept decimals, so you can enter prices like 19.99 exactly.
Tips for getting the most out of it
The calculator is currency-agnostic, so although prices are labelled with a dollar sign you can use it for any currency by simply reading the numbers as your own. The math is identical no matter the symbol.
Use the reverse panel to sanity-check marketing claims. If a shop says "up to 50% off" but the final price is only a few dollars below the original, entering both prices will quickly reveal the true discount. For stacked or multi-item deals, calculate one item at a time for the clearest picture.
