What the Screen Recorder does
This tool records whatever is on your screen — a full display, a single window or just a browser tab — straight from your browser, with no software to install. It can capture your microphone and system audio alongside the video and saves the result as a WebM file you can download immediately. Because it uses your browser's built-in Screen Capture API, the recording is created entirely on your own machine and is never streamed to a server.
It is handy for recording quick tutorials and how-to clips, capturing a bug to show a colleague, saving an online meeting or webinar, narrating a slide deck, or grabbing a snippet of video that has no download button.
Capturing audio and choosing what to record
When you start a recording, the browser asks which screen, window or tab you want to share, and you can choose whether to include audio. Recording your microphone lets you narrate as you go, while capturing system or tab audio keeps the sound from the content you are recording — useful for videos and calls. You can combine both to talk over a clip that already has its own soundtrack.
Sharing a single tab rather than your whole screen is the tidiest option for web demos: it keeps notifications and other windows out of shot and often gives the cleanest audio capture.
How to use it and browser support
Pick your audio options, click record, choose what to share in the browser prompt, and carry out whatever you want to capture. When you stop, the clip is ready to download as WebM. The Screen Capture API is supported in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and other Chromium-based browsers on desktop; mobile browser support is limited. If you need an MP4 instead of WebM, convert the file afterwards with a video converter.
