Calculate the tip and split the bill in seconds
This tip calculator works out how much to leave on a restaurant, cafe, bar, or taxi bill and, if you are dining with others, divides the total fairly between everyone. It is built for the moment the check arrives and you want a quick, confident answer without doing mental arithmetic at the table or arguing over who owes what.
Enter the bill amount, pick a tip percentage, and set how many people are sharing. The calculator immediately shows the tip amount, the grand total including the tip, and the cost per person, along with each person's share of the tip on its own.
How to use it
Type the bill amount into the first field. Choose one of the preset tip percentages (10, 15, 18, 20, or 25 percent) or tap Custom to enter your own rate, which is handy for service that was exceptional or for regions with different tipping norms. Finally, enter the number of people splitting the bill; it defaults to one if left blank.
Everything recalculates live as you change any value, so there is no button to press. The three result cards update together: Tip Amount shows the gratuity, Total Bill shows what you will actually pay, and Per Person breaks down the total and the tip portion for each diner.
How much should you tip?
Tipping customs vary widely by country and situation. In the United States, 15 to 20 percent of the pre-tax bill is a common range for sit-down table service, with 18 percent often treated as a standard default. In many other countries a smaller tip, or none at all, is normal, and some bills already include a service charge, so it is worth checking before adding more.
The tip here is calculated on the bill amount you enter. If your receipt lists tax separately and you prefer to tip on the pre-tax subtotal, enter that subtotal instead. All amounts are rounded to two decimal places, and every calculation runs in your browser, so your bill details are never uploaded.
