Add Page Numbers to Any PDF
This tool stamps sequential page numbers onto every page of a PDF and lets you control where they appear, how large they are, and which number the sequence starts from. It is useful for reports, contracts, dissertations, court bundles, manuscripts, and any multi-page document that needs clear pagination for reference or printing.
The numbers are drawn directly into the PDF as real text using the built-in Helvetica font, so they become part of the document and travel with it wherever it is opened or printed. There is no need for design software or a paid PDF editor.
How to Use the Page Number Tool
Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click to choose one. The tool reads the document and shows how many pages it contains. Next, choose a position: bottom center, bottom right, bottom left, or top center. Use the slider to set a font size between 8 and 24 points, and set the starting number if you do not want to begin at 1.
Click "Add Page Numbers" and the tool writes the numbers onto each page in order. When it finishes, download the new file, which is saved with a "numbered_" prefix so your original is left untouched.
Tips for Numbering Documents
The starting number is handy when a document is one section of a larger set. For example, if a previous file ended on page 12, set the start number to 13 so the numbering continues smoothly across both files. You can also start at 0 if a cover page should not count toward the visible sequence.
Choose a position that will not collide with existing footers or headers in your document, and pick a font size that matches the page's text. Numbers are placed a short, fixed margin in from the page edge so they stay clear of the very edge when printed.
