Morse Code Reference
Translate between text and Morse code
The Morse Code Converter turns ordinary text into Morse code and decodes Morse code back into readable text. Morse code represents each letter, number, and common punctuation mark as a unique pattern of dots and dashes. Invented in the 1830s for the electric telegraph, it remained a backbone of long-distance and radio communication for over a century and is still used today by amateur radio operators, aviators, and for emergency signalling.
This converter is handy for hobbyists learning Morse, teachers and students exploring how it works, puzzle and escape-room creators, and anyone who wants to encode a short message. It supports the full alphabet A to Z, the digits 0 to 9, and a wide range of punctuation including periods, commas, question marks, and symbols like the at sign and ampersand.
How to convert in either direction
Pick a direction using the tabs at the top: "Text to Morse" or "Morse to Text." Type or paste your input into the box, then click Convert to see the result below. You can copy the output to your clipboard with the Copy button.
When decoding Morse back to text, follow the standard spacing convention: put a single space between the dots and dashes of each letter, and a forward slash (/) between words. For example, "...." then space "." decodes the start of a word. The built-in Morse Code Reference table at the bottom lists every supported character and its code so you can look up patterns as you go.
Notes and privacy
Any character the converter does not recognise is shown as a question mark, which makes it easy to spot input mistakes such as an unsupported symbol or an incorrectly spaced Morse pattern. Text is automatically treated case-insensitively, since Morse code does not distinguish between uppercase and lowercase letters.
The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded to a server or stored, so your messages stay private on your own device. The tool is completely free and needs no account or sign-up.
