The Video Converter changes a video from one format to another so it plays where you need it to. You can convert between MP4, WebM, AVI, and MOV, or export to an animated GIF. MP4 with H.264 is the safest all-round choice for phones, browsers, and editing software; WebM with VP9 is ideal for the web and tends to be smaller; while AVI and MOV are useful when a specific application or device expects them. Converting to GIF is handy for short, silent, looping clips.

The conversion is performed locally in your browser using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your file is read directly from your device and is never sent to a server, so your video stays private. The first conversion of a session downloads the FFmpeg engine from a public CDN, and after that it is cached for instant reuse.

How to convert a video

Drag your video onto the upload area or click to browse and select it. The tool accepts standard video files such as MP4, WebM, MOV, and AVI. Once a file is loaded, choose your desired Output Format from the buttons: MP4, WebM, AVI, MOV, or GIF.

Click the Convert button and watch the progress bar as the file is re-encoded. When it completes, a download button appears so you can save the converted file with the correct extension. For GIF output the tool downscales to 480 pixels wide at 10 frames per second using high-quality Lanczos scaling, which keeps the result sharp.

Choosing the right format

If you are unsure, MP4 is the most compatible choice and works almost everywhere. Pick WebM when you want a smaller file for a website and your audience uses modern browsers. Use GIF only for very short, silent clips, since GIFs become large quickly. Re-encoding to a new codec always takes some processing time and uses your device's memory, so long or high-resolution videos will take longer; if a conversion struggles, try a shorter clip.
